Schmidt arrived to the Giants on July 30, 2001, when the Pirates traded him and John Vander Wal to San Francisco in exchange for Armando Rios and Ryan Vogelesong - yes, that Ryan Vogelsong! In six years with the Giants, Schmidt had a 78-37 record, 3.36 ERA, and 1065 strikeouts. In that time, he was a 3-time All-Star and placed 2nd for the National League Cy Young voting in 2003. Consequently, his best season was also in 2003, when he compiled a 17-5 record, 2.34 ERA, 208 K's, and a 0.953 WHIP.
Benard was drafted by the Giants in the 1992 amateur draft in the 50th round from Lewis-Clark State College. He played his entire 9-year big league with the Giants. In that time, he amassed a .271 career batting average, and 54 home runs and 260 RBI. His single best season came in 1999, when he belted 16 home runs, 64 RBI, 27 stolen bases and a .290 average.
